Then he has a problem, since there are still plenty of mail programs that
don't display images at all.  Best to assume that the users are friendly
and a teeny bit smart and tell them what they have to do to be sure they
get the nice pictures.

That works fine.

Same as displaying any web page offline, it won't load the images if
they're not already cached.  Tell people not to do that.
