I wrote a custom tag a while back that might help. The tag retrieves the field names, datatypes and if the field is nullable from SQL server, Oracle and DB2 databases. Don't think it is exactly what you are looking for but it may be edited to suit your needs.

Does anyone know a good way to get the details of a table, like a list of the table columns and their maxlengths and datatypes? I would like to do this based on the table's title and nothing more...
