Jim,
In general, any browser is gonna have a hard time loading a <select>
menu with 6000 options to begin with. Add on top of that using a
client-side method of creating those options. Client-side scripts like
that rely on the end-user's system - not the server.
What kind of functionality are you trying to have? Maybe there's another
approach.
