$35 seems reasonable, but it's very possible to get much higher.
Depends on the client of course, and your skillset. Also depends on
where you are, and who you're competing against. Not uncommon for
overseas developers to bill out at the $5-10/hour range - if you're
bidding on a project where that's your competition, how can you beat it
(of course, you can focus on what you do better than them, but many
clients can't see past the money issue).

So, after several days of asking this, I received this information:

ComputerJobs says about $30-35 / hour for application development

$30/hour - a multimedia guy
$75-125 - another multimedia guy
$65+ - another multimedia guy
$100 - designer I work with (uh huh...)

Our multimedia director here says $35 is probably the norm. I guess
that's just for multimedia, which apparently is much cheaper than
_________. Application development?

Man, I am getting a bunch of really varied answers. I have an idea of
what to shoot for, but perhaps I could hear some more opinions from you
all!

Let's hear 'em.

David

You don't charge what you're worth, you're worth what you charge. :-)

I'm looking at doing some freelance for several different
people/companies.
I know my stuff.
How much do you all typically charge?
How much have you asked for and the client says "Whoa now. That's too
high."?

Thanks

David
