This will basically require using the <cfobject> tag to create an instance
of Excel within CF, and then using the Excel object's methods to create the
sheets and write the data to them. There is a wealth of information on
interfacing with Excel (and other MS Office apps) at www.cfcomet.com. Just
be aware that you must have Excel installed on the CF server (or another
server that it can access remotely via <cfobject>) in order for it to work.

I have not used CF to write to Excel, so I can't offer much advice other
than pointing you to CFComet, but I have used <cfobject> to read Excel data
into a two-dimensional array, and it works quite well. More specifically, I
have used a custom tag that you can download at CFComet called <cf_ReadXML>.
It's quite easy to use, it works great, and everything you need is on
CFComet.

Hope this helps,

Jay Laengrich

Subject: create excel file with multiple sheets

Does anyone know of a feasible way to create an excel
document that has multiple sheets via CF?

I've used this code to generate a file that has just
one sheet:

<CFHEADER NAME="content-disposition"
VALUE="attachment; filename=file.xls">
<cfcontent type="application/vnd.ms-excel">

<HTML CODE GOES HERE>

Now, I do have stipulations. I need it to work in
Excel 2000, so the cool XML code that you can "Save
As" in Excel 2002 is off limits. It works great, just
not in Excel 2000. If you'd like to know how I
achieved that, just email me and I'll send you some
sample code.

But for now...

I need help with getting it to work in Excel 2000.

Much thanks in advance.

Danny G.
