Is that a question or a statement? > 2) What do you need to know before trying to learn Cold > Fusion? HTML ( preferably including CSS ), Basic conditional logic, the differences and interrelationships between client and server technologies. One of the more commonly asked questions in mailing lists and other cf-forums is "how do I pass a variable from javascript to cf" ... Often neophytes expect ( reasonably so since they don't understand the difference between client / server ) that they can use #mycfvariable# = document.forms.myform.myinput.inputvalue; to pass a javascript variable to cf to be used further down on the same page. Understanding this distinction ahead of time can save them some headache. > 3) What do you find as the best way to learn Cold Fusion? I read the books that came with the server personally... mostly getting familiar with the language reference really... although I'm sure it helped that I had a programming background. > 4) What is most important when learning Cold Fusion? scoping scoping scoping ( I'm discovering even now that my scoping habbits could be much better ), Locking (if they will _ever_ work with CF 5 or prior ), and of course at least a rudimentary understanding of sql and cfquery ... Personally I'm also inclined to say custom tag's, UDF's and in MX CFC's because these really help with eliminating cut-and-paste code and mulitple update issues -- encapsulation and code-reuse and all that good stuff... :) > 5) How important is it to know server information if you > are only going to > be using Cold Fusion Studio? What do you mean by server information? > 6) How long did it take for you to really know Cold > Fusion? Still learning I suppose. :) It never ends really... though I was proficient enough after a couple weeks to recreate a mission critical application for MCI which on some days took upwards of several hundred project requests into an Access db after it failed when I took over, and after only a couple weeks was able to improve on the model of my predecessor's design which he'd had 6 months to build. So ... Not long I'd say. :) Granted, when I look back now I think the code I did on that then was really crude, but it got the job done at the time and MCI wasn't really hiring for a programmer anyway. > Any other relating information would be much appreciated!! > Thanks, > Shirley > ---------------------------------------------------------- > --------------- > This email server is running an evaluation copy of the > MailShield anti- > spam software.
