for more info on Access, try this:

Other interesting links:

and finally..

With regards to an 'empirical' answer (relying on or derived from observation or
experiment). My OBSERVATION has been that SQL Server, DB2, Oracle, MySQL,
PervasiveSQL and PostgreSQL (all of the RDBM's I've had significant exposure
to) blow the socks off MSAccess in PERFORMANCE. But, you'd be hard-pressed to
find one of the above that you could develop an application faster in (with all
of the features Access offers). More often than not, I use Access to connect to
disparate systems for migration/conversion issues, quick reporting (if I'm not
building a web-based system), or a simple stand alone app.

oh..and for about $40, you can buy this software
(http://www.convert-in.com/acc2sql.htm) to convert your access database into
mysql. I've used it and it works great...

Good luck!
