I'd be curious to hear specifically why you're having a hard time making it useful--the reason I ask is because it might be that you need more generic OO information as opposed to the specifics of CFC development at this point. Also bear in mind that Hal's book is a bit dated since it was written for CFMX 6 (not 6.1), so there are some hacks, etc. in there that no longer apply.

A couple of books I'd recommend if you're just wanting basic OO information are "The Object-Oriented Thought Process" by Matt Weisfeld, "Object Technology: A Manager's Guide" by David Taylor, and "Head First Java" (O'Reilly).

Also, definitely check out some of these links:

In my opinion it's extremely important to have a good grasp on the OO concepts before you dive in and start messing with CFCs. Trust me, at some point as you're learning this stuff you'll have a "Eureka!" moment and won't want to go back. ;-)

I'm finally starting to get started with CFC development. Can anyone point out a good starter book or URLs or articles? I've tried Hal Helm's CFC starter book, but had a REALLY hard time making it useful.

Thanks!
