i give it an 8.5 (considering i think empire ranks a 10).

i wish i could say lucas redeemed himself by this movie, but i can't
forgive how horrible 1 and 2 were. if he had spent even half the
effort he spent in plotline and character depth he had in sith on the
first two, they wouldn't have been so bad.

honestly, i think the first 2 could have been combined into one movie,
and sith could pretty much stand alone.

you basically see the evolvement of anakin into the villain he is
known to be, yet it is a sympathetic evolution. his reasons start off
as noble, but becomes twisted in the end.

one of the classic touches of lucas can be seen in the beginning with
r2's playful quirkiness. even yoda's facial expressions emote depth.
you feel his pain and anger.

most of all, the end was beautiful. the slow metamorphosis of anakin
into vader, the placement of all of his traditional armor and
breathing apparati, juxtaposed to the denouement of luke and leia's
fates was great.

and, best of all, the ending, where owen is holding luke and staring
off into tatooine's twin suns reminds you of the continuity: that 'a
new hope' starts off with luke staring at the twin suns ...

it was definitely a movie along the lines of the original star wars trilogy.
