Keep in mind, also, the reasoning behind the three-second rule. First
off, your average driver is too busy flossing their teeth, talking on
the phone, and shaving (usually all at the same time) to care to
notice if the person in front of them is braking or not. Second, cars
don't stop on a dime. So we've got reaction time and brake time. But
when you're an elite mobile suit team, working together as if one, the
reaction time is considerably shorter. Add to that the fact that
mobile suits theoretically stop in far shorter distance (at least when
walking) than a car does. Reaction time and brake time call for less
space.
Second, the three-second rule is for safe driving, and safe driving is
nice when you're driving home from work or going to the store, but
when you're fighting a war, you sometimes have to take a few more
risks, and I can't imagine a good team of mobile suits being wiped out
by something so embarrassing as because they didn't allow enough space
in front of them.
