Are the Balls piloted or remote controlled? I think they're goofy looking. If they're piloted, that must be one embarrassing mecha to pilot!!

A father/son discussion -

"Son, what mech do you use in battle? Well, it's, erm a Ball, Dad. A WHAT?!?! I said a BALL, DAD!

Then the Dad either faints or passes out from laughter.

I thought the Ball came out before the GM. My fault.

I didn't say that Balls came before GM. Not that the timing of
development matters.

BLAH, dyslexic today. I mean to say I didn't say that Balls came out
AFTER GM.

On screen we saw GM first deployed for Jaburo defense, and Balls were
first deployed later, during Op. Star One and A Boa Qu. 08MST changed
many things and made GM and Ball both appeared much earlier, before
Odessa. But the dialogue in Ep.1 strongly suggest that the Ball was
never meant to be used as an independent fighting unit. So combine
that with you see in the last few episodes of 0079, the Balls role
seem to be used in swarms as firepower support and/or cannon fodders
for GM's.
