Isn't alginate made from agar, the stuff we
refer to as snow tree mushroom (snow ear)?

In the lab we have alginate,
the product name is "Densply caulk", the trade name is
Jeltrate. It's used by dentist to make impression of the
mouth cavity. Since it can go inside the mouth, it may (or may
not!) be safe for baby skin. Hmm the MSDS says it contains
silica, which is at best "mostly harmless". Perhaps you can
find pure alginate to try.
Oh... haha, try to google "alginate
baby hand casting"
I use your keyboard and actually find the company that
made the casting kit, and is selling refill kit for the baby casting
kit: http://www.castingkits.com/Alginate_Replacement_Powder.phpI'll
just get a bag, actually maybe a couple as I can just cast something else
(Toby is a baby boy 8-) just kidding ).
I should also add, yes it says "alginate". Doc you got it dead
on!
