Shogo runs under XP. Admittedly I had to do some tweaking, but it was fairly simple stuff and I was able to get the game up and running quickly. The official site (http://www.shogo-mad.com - the link to the playable demo may still even work) is still up, and has a few posts in the forum from just the last couple of weeks, but more useful is an unofficial site that someone pointed to (http://www.shogomad.com). The latter actually had some news posted last July (not bad for a game that came out at around the same time as the original Half-Life...), and the forums are active enough that most of them have had posts within the last week. While there I found a solution to an install problem that I didn't have (game wasn't installing under XP - solution was to do it in Windows 95 mode; I didn't have any trouble installing, however), and a solution to the problem that I did have (problems with the screen at start up, beginning with a LithTech logo movie that either didn't display, or that started and then froze). The solution was to manually turn my Frames per Second to less than 60. Since my video card software won't allow me to do this, I had to do it using directions posted on the forum. 1.) Start multi-player 2.) Click "Next" until you get to a screen that allows you to choose your FPS. Pick a value less than 60 (I used 50). Click the checkbox next to the FPS value. 3.) Click "Next" until you get the option to click "Finish" Once you click Finish, the fps value is saved and will be used when you play a single player game. If you don't click Finish, then the change is discarded (I checked). The problem may be limited to GeForce cards - not certain about that. In any case, it's up and running now. Some of the effects are a little silly (particularly eight years after it was released), and the enemy AI routine still is rather eratic in when it spots you. But the game is still as fun as it's always been. At least to me. junior -- _______________________________________________ Search for businesses by name, location, or phone number. -Lycos Yellow Pages http://r.lycos.com/r/yp_emailfooter/http://yellowpages.lycos.com/default.asp?SRC=lycos10 -------------------------------------------------- The Gundam Mailing List MK-II [email protected] Archives: http://www.gundam.com/gml Help: Email [EMAIL PROTECTED] with this in the BODY: help list
