I'd buy light up option parts. I'd buy MSIA's that have light up eyes and beam saber blades. I would not want ALL my mecha to light up but a few would be okay. No crazy Christmas light mecha, though! ;)

Welcome back, have you been on some kind of expedition?

Something like that, I've been busy with the Gundam Caravans for the local
distributor - thankfully, all the hard work paid off, as the Philippines is
one of the top asian countries aside from Japan in terms of sales and brand
awareness for gundam.

3) 1/100 MG Gyan
Looks like a good rendition of the Gyan, chock-full of details and a light-up
beam sword. Personally, though...I think I can make do without the gimmick if
it would mean less on the price tag. But that's Bandai for you.

If padding the lesser MS with extra gimmicks and price tag is
necessary to get them to the store shelves, I'd take it.

hmmm. that's one way of looking at it - I don't mind padding it with uber
details, but the light-up system is something a bit too extravagant, I think.
But then, following your mode of thinking, it's true that I doubt if a lot of
people would buy option light-up parts for this.

4) 1/144 HGUC Zaku I
It looks good, being able to replicate the Shoulder Attack, but is that
bazooka rest on its shoulder a retcon, as well as the handheld rocket that's
stowed on the shield puncher? I sort of wish it had the colony-gassing weapon,
too.

Well won't that inflate the price tag as well? ;) Anyway, it's not
out of the question for a future variant kit, but Topp may not want to
touch this weapon...

Given the price range, I wouldn't have minded a bit more...

IIRC, Old Zaku from 1979-80 had no gimmick at all. Very soon after
(definitely before Zeta in 1985) Zaku became Zaku II and Old Zaku
became Zaku I; and at some (much later) point Zaku I began to have
weapons. The usual suspects are: Topp's Zaku I in 08MST, MG variant
kits (particularly Black Trinity version and Ramba version) and games.
Won't surprise me at all if Zaku I first had weapons (machine gun?)
in a SD game, any gamer can answer that? Or perhaps FvZ arcade game.
Oh... hey... the heat hawk is also included:

But ehh... doesn't the proportion looks rather 1970s to you? UGH
OTOH... this is the actual Zaku I bazooka! The MG Zaku I kits all had
Zaku II bazookas. IIRC.

I actually liked the old school proportions. hmmm, so the bazooka is more
historically correct, eh? very nice.
