Very interesting.  I wonder if the newish Gundam Shop in HK represents
the same trend.  For 20+ years, Gunpla were sold in hobby shops and
other goodies were sold in toy/hobby shops and department stores.  Why
would Bandai open a single-brand retail shop, not just any retail shop
but a mutlistoried large floor space shop in an area that is normally
too upscale for toy shops.

Perhaps hobby is being squeezed out of all the general audience shops
and department stores, so Bandai built a single specialty superstore
to service all of Hong Kong.  It's just like the Apple Store right? 
Best Buy won't give Macs the shelf space so Apple has to open
single-brand shops.
