Maybe it's just that "Acguy charm" factor. It's ugly, but in a way that kind of tells you that what it lacks in looks it makes up for in what it's designed to do - blowing stuff up. Big asskicking machines aren't supposed to look good. The Bio Gundam is ugly in a different way - it's ugly and it doesn't look very menacing either.
