Looks like an interesting display technology searching desperately for
a viable application. If it's a conventional arcade, ultimately it's
just yet another iteration of FvZ.
Why you say that? Sounds pretty good to me. I'm not dissing your ideas.
It's just what you want needs the financial backing of someone like Bill
Gates! :) More of my comments are below, after Core's comments.
I was playing a Mech Warrior game in Chucky Cheese (sorry if you spit
coffee all over your keyboard). I wasn't expecting much in a place
aimed at 1-10 yr olds. But it's a shaky bubble cockpit thingie so I
just had to try it. After a five yr old girl finally vacated the
cockpit (yes I am sinking that low) and discovered for myself how
dumbed down it is... It's really just Space Invader ported to 3D and
dual control sticks. anyhoo... even in an adult-oriented arcade, Mech
Warrior is still configured to play out a mission in less than 5
minutes. Arcades have to deliver both quick death (to consume
player's coins) and quick kills (to encourage the defeated players to
insert more coins).
I remember when my local Chucky Cheese was called "Billy Bob's". Fun
times as a kid, don't dis Mr. Cheese! IIRC, They where separate places,
then they merged into Chucky Cheese.
Hopefully a new type of game could emerge that not only improve the
display/cockpit but also make the game more realistic and challenging.
Allowing for time compression, a mission should still play out in
10-30 minutes. And there should be massive missions (Odessa, A Boa
Qu) that lasts 5 hours (BYOD - bring your own diaper).
Are you CRAZY man!?!? ;) FIVE hours?! Will YOU be covering the EXPENSE
of this? ;) I'll send you my diaper bills! US Mail, I assume? ;) Are you
gonna use a diaper as a helmet? :)
