And total Zaku I production being greater than 1/4 of the total Zaku II
units produced sounds awfully high.

I feel very comfortable with the number of 3000+ units of Zaku II ever
produced. 800 Doms, maybe 200-400 Gelgoogs, also seem compatible with
video evidence. (now we can at least begin to speculate how many
Musai's were there)

800 units of Zaku I produced by the end of 0077 does sound very high
compared to just over 4000 units of all other Zeon MS. But I could
accept that number if all the deployed Zaku I got rapidly phased out
between Jan 0078 and Jan 0079. Thrift is never a virtue in military
planning. It's easy to make the production number consistent with
animation because the story began more than 20 months after the end of
Zaku I production, plenty of time to get rid of 800 units (not
necessary by combat right? just scrape the materials!)

Sure. At the start of WWII I'm sure the U.S. had a load of P-40 Warhawks which were basically out of date already. And Britain had a lot of Hawker Hurricanes, inferior to the Spitfires, that were apparently the real heroes of the Battle of Britain since there were more of them. Neither lasted long in the war, though, regardless of their numbers, because development of better planes pushed them aside (and I'm sure a lot of them got destroyed in attacks, too).

"I think that's 'the Line'."

 - Tom, on having one artist in The Island cut off the penis of another
Islander, let him bleed to death and then eat his corpse, like he
heard about some German doing recently, being what would constitute
crossing the line in The Island such that someone would have to do
   something about that infraction.
