Though I don't quite follow the explanation on one of the Bandai promo pics,
Tsukurikake Mokei Dojo's photo report says more simply "ABS resin joints
without the use of polycaps".

Remember the 0080 models? they have some sort of "integrated polycaps" so that the polycaps parts are actually customized for the model. The good thing is the polycaps doesn't restrict the design... you don't always have to design the joints big enough to fit the polycaps; the bad thing is polycaps are hard to paint from many opinion.
Additionally It reduces the material used to make a gunpla.
So now Bandai is using a similar approach but with ABS, which can have better control in manufacturing and details than polycaps.
