>From: BlazeEagle <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >What about the android Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation? Also, >what about the Borg?
Data was pitiful because he was obsessed with becoming human (or human-like), which utterly defeats the purpose of AI in the first place. The Borg were just stupid, since anything keen on adapting in the manner they did wouldn't need humanoid agents to do the deed. An out of control, mechanized race bent on improving itself is a fine idea (and one that's been explored many, many times), but I'm going for something different here. The AIs in question are content with who and what they are, know exactly what they're doing, and are not malfunctioning in the least. They just understand the implications of their programming better than do their creators (or, perhaps, simply learned to apply their programming in new ways that are consistent with their old programming and still ultimately benevolent toward humanity, even if humanity needs to grow the f--- up). -------------------------------------------------- The Gundam Mailing List MK-II [email protected] Archives: http://www.gundam.com/gml Help: Email [EMAIL PROTECTED] with this in the BODY: help list
