Hey Richy!
Thanks much for the info on the modelers and the models. Sounds like you've
got a really great bunch over there that loves to get very creative. I do
appreciate that one kit more now that I realize it's made with as many
household items as it is plastic and
kitbashing!(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v383/salamangkiero/Gundam%20stuff/gundamx3.jpg)
Me? I'm happy if I can get an MG done these days, much less do more than
minimal painting! You're lucky to have those folks around and enjoy.
BTW: I know you posted it a while back, but do you still have the link for
you modeling group's web site? I'm curious to look it over now if it has
more details on some of the work y'all do. Thanks again!

Thanks Bob! hmmm, let me shed light on a few of the builders and the
kits...

Nathan Barrera is one of our best kit builders in MechaPinoy. His
specialty is really in the detail work, and he's well known for using a
lot of parts from other kits. I remember selling this guy part of an MG
Freedom body frame, and I have a sneaking suspicion that i've just seen
where it went...
Aside from the highly-modified guncannon, the GM also sports parts from a
Powered GM add-on set. The visor, however, is mostly scratchbuilt.
Nathan is a graphics artist, and I think he graduated from architecture.

James Quinsaat, on the other hand, is famous (notorious...) for his
radical builds. He's the sort of guy who created a Land-Use Rick Dias, and
for this one, you'll probably notice the "Shark Ball", an aquatic Ball
unit that has vertical fins. His diorama is also unusual in that it has no
set viewing point for the audience, but rather should be looked at from
all angles.
I think he's also a graduate of architecture, and he does work in
construction.
3rd place:

This is by a new guy (I have yet to be formally introduced to him), and
what is amazing here is that the backpack is made of parts from
coathangers, and the cabling seems to be made, too, from laundry clips and
technical hardware parts. It was easily one of the most striking kits in
the whole competition.
Others:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v383/salamangkiero/Gundam%20stuff/crossbone1.jpg
This kit was built by a guy whose major is in finearts (Painting), and as
a result, it's hard to believe that this is a handbrushed kit. Shinobi
(the builder's nickname) is also accomplished in scratchbuilding joints
for FG kits - but his skill at painting is really what separates him from
the rest of the crowd.

This Rick Dias is the product of Ariane, a girl in her early teens who has
been a persistent contestant for the past three years, and she is well
known for her clean builds and paint jobs. She's easily the best in the
Junior category, and in a few years, she'll give the boys in the seniors a
hard time.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v383/salamangkiero/Gundam%20stuff/Jake2.jpg
Jake is one of the stalwarts of MP, and his work is characterized by
reusing parts and scraps to create a lot of new add-ons. In this design,
he just expands on the idea of the shield as a flying object, while the MS
itself is probably sporting rocket launchers made from ballpens...

Simon Palma is known in the IPMS-BAC (Philippines) circles, and for his
work with armor kits and dioramas. he's also an official for RC races, and
probably has the largest collection of unbuilt '80's-era gundam kits. The
UCHG line is a blessing for him, as he can now use his considerable stock
of 1/35 stuff to doing a gundam kit.
