When Google first anounced My Maps
 http://maps.google.com/help/maps/userguide/index.html
I tried it out by (re-)creating the WB path episode by episode,
actually I only added a few incomplete episodes and connecting lines.
Some features I wanted to include were: some planned routes that were
different from the actual event (e.g. WB's descent as planned in Ep.
5-6 and then disrupted and diverted by Char; and other
routes/missions/installations/major battles that were implied in the
series/movies but not explicitly laid out before. E.g. Matilda's
flight path to and from the repair/supply mission in Ep. 9 or Ramba
Ral's path in pursuit (allegedly) of WB. One nice thing (I was
hoping) is that the completed map would allow the user to zoom out to
continental scale and zoom into a battle and see events mapped onto
the scale of a few city blocks.

Another example: today we got a tactical map of Jaburo thanks to Bonds
Of The Battlefield.

http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20070414/pod.htm

Actually I was doing it essentially from memory and Wikipedia, because
I was on a long trip and couldn't check my reference books. So I
started that "Why go West" thread to hear the list's wisdom on one of
the many mysteries

Then, on the weekend, I got to check my references, which is, in this
case, the map in the Roman Album for the TV series. And it bares
little semblance to what I thought was relatively reasonable: that ep.
10 was at Seattle, and ep. 11 (Icelina) was in the Rockies in BC
(northward from Seattle) and Doan's island was in the northern
Pacific. Rather, Roman Album placed Ep. 10 at S. California, Ep.11
along Baja California peninsula, and Doan's Island in equatorial
Pacific.

The direction the WB took from Baja California was nothing short of a
geographical travesty. No matter where they were heading: Jaburo,
Odessa, Belfast or Japan, the middle of the Pacific was the WRONG WAY.

Then I remember a similar line of discussion and found my own post
from 9/20/06 with this link:

  http://www.gundam.jp/

It places Ep.10-11 near Seattle but otherwise is no better than Roman
Album's version. Then I also vaguely remember being
disappoint/outraged by some of the geography of some Gundam games (Fed
vs. Zeon being one of the guilty, I think). Oh BTW, according to
Bonds of Battlefield, the whole battle theatre at Jaburo is only 2.5km
by 1.3km, less than half of Gundam's sensor (and presumably firing)
range. By comparison Nazi Germany's Tiger I tank can hit a 2m target
at 2.5km range in combat with an probability of about 30%. Also
Gettysburg battleground was at least 6mi by 4mi (9.6km by 6.4km), that
was pre-jet engine and beam weapon warfare, eh?

So what am I saying? I'm giving up. I shall never give a rat's
behind for any alleged maps of Gundam from now on.
