So, should the GML start a fund to buy one of these printers and start
making our own Gundam Models?
That's both unpractical and unnecessary. Unpractical because even in
our heydays we had only ~250 lurkers, that still works out to about
$150 per lurker. Unnecessary because there are plenty of (e)-shops
that takes your CAD file or even hand sketches and print out one-off
3D object using one of these devices. There's a variety of prices and
qualities. But it's never cost-effective enough to make original or
replacement parts for Gunpla. E.g. I did a cost estimate for a
replacement hip part (broken a couple in the last 2-3 years) and find
that replacing the hip part costs more than buying a whole kit.

Does that thing output in plastic? If so, that has got to be Bandai's
worst nightmare.
It's safe to assume that Bandai is a pioneer both in the development
and application of this rapid prototyping technology. If I'm not too
mistaken, the first few PG models was about the time when Bandai
really pushed the use of CAD/3D printers to develop new complex
gunplas.
