Hmm -- that's a tough question -- I have a lot of favorites. But
this is actually a practical exercise for me, because when I travel I
actually carry a leather CD wallet with the Harley Davidson
Motorcycles (r) logo on the front. It holds about 15 CDs, but sometimes
I double up.
It's right here -- let's see: it has The English Suites (Bach),
"Songs for Ellen" (Joe Pass -- solo guitar, recorded shortly before
he died), Eurythmics Greatest Hits (sorry), The Isle of View
(Pretenders), Bach unacompanied cello suites, Bach Well Tempered
Clavier, Jimi Hendrix Axis: Bold as Love, Bach Mass in Bm, 2
Beethoven String Quartets, a collection of early keyboard music
played on a "double-virginal", 10 years of Steely Dan, Joshua Tree
(U2), and Time Out of Mind (Dylan). It's all carefully selected so
that there's something for whatever mood strikes me.
If I am gone for any length of time, I have a travel guitar that fits
inside my large suitcase. I frequently take it, and some sheet
music, as well. I can sit in my hotel room and plink away into the
wee hours.
