Are you disagreeing that it is "wild", or that it is an "estimate"?  
Grant me that "wild" is a rather imprecise term, OK?

You are correct, of course, that the NSI IPO made some of the numbers
more concrete.  However, I was merely trying to point out that Carl
does make estimates. 

Here's an example of another estimate of Carl's from the newdom list,
before the IPO -- this was just a quick 30 second scan.  I'm quite
sure that a more extensive look will find several other cases, and,
if my memory serves, ones that went into more detail:
