The press release said:

ICANN was created by the global Internet community in response to
Management of Internet Names and Addresses, a U.S. Government statement
of policy issued in June 1998, that invited the global Internet community
to form a new, private sector organization to undertake management of
Internet domain-name system functions.

Sean garett, this is too funny for words.

ICANN UNEQUIVOCALLY WAS NOT CREATED BY THE GLOBAL INTERNET COMMUNITY.

I WAS TALKING LAST WEEK to someone who was very close to Jon postel. the
bylaws created ICANN. This person said he really thought the bylaws were
created by only two people: Joes Sims and Jon Postel. I find this hard to
believe but have no infor to proove him wrong.

Even if one of the two people was Jon two people do not equate to the
global internet community.

NOTE: Contempt in which ICANN PRES. MIKE ROBERTS holds rest of Internet:
"Some of those people think the management [ICANN] should check with the
public [the Communities of the Internet] every time they make a decision,
which is crazy," Roberts said. "That's flat-out crazy." WIRED NEWS 2/4/99
