I totally agree. In fact, and I speak under correction about the details
here, in Germany and places it is a violation of the Data Protection Act
to publish such data.
I happen to agree that the recent restriction placed on downloading the
2LD zone files off NSI to entities wishing to enter into a NDA is a
sensible step.

I do not agree at all with this one. In fact I feel that anyone
registering any domain and not responding within reasonable time to
communications directed to the registered email addresses, and/or the
registered snail-mail addresses, should be subject to being put on hold.
As always, the solution should lie in the middle, ie no anonymous
registrations, but no personal information given out by whois, but on
written request and only for cause, eg in case of domain disputes, so the
parties can sort it out among themselves without the registry being
involved in any way.
