Yes it's annoying that they crow about their monopoly.

The rest of the site is no better

>> Get a Web Address - dot com web address
>>
>> Enhance your presence on the Net with a personalized Web Address
>> of your choosing.

Continues the hype that 2nd/3rd/nth level domains are not so good.

>> You can claim your piece of the Internet action by creating an
>> online identity that can enhance your company name, increase
>> your brand equity

Reinforces brand = DN = TM

>> And with .com, .net and .org, you can triple your presence for
>> less than the cost of a cup of coffee only 51 cents a day to
>> reserve your address with all 3 domains.

So the masses get told jsut one isn't enough, you need 3. Obviously
this increases the pressure if it's made a third as small space as it
could be

>> Extend your reach with our dot com forwarding service

>>
>> Reserve as many .com, .net and .org Web Addresses as you need to

Encouraging people to chew up as many names as possible

And FUD them into doing it in every TLD possible.

If this is the norm extra TLD's just mean more money for registrars not
more space for people to share. A conclusion is to not bother
with all this argument over a few extra TLDs but to abolish the
hierarchy (as it'll just end up as multiple copies of .com) and just
let everyone register in the root.

It sounds like a more radical plan than ICANN/NSI/WIPO is needed
