William and all,

All, be sure that you know what and whom is making such comments
for what they represent.
To Wit, from http://www.dso.net/?services:

DSO Internet offers the following services :

 Domain Registration
We provide free and easy interfaces to registering your com/net/org domain
name, as well  as many of the Country Code Domains. We provide free
domain parking so you don't  have to worry about having 2 nameservers
setup.

Seems a bit disingenuous doesn't it?  Domain Name Parking?   Hummmm?
a prelude to domain name hijacking or wasting of DN resources....

As will we.  We have already begun discussions with the other SysAdmins in this
area and have generally agreed that when new registrars are introduced, we will
use their services as much as possible to minimize the funds NSI gets per
domain registration.

This is infuriating, and Chuck's arguing over semantics, saying this is not the
registry, etc, shows their intent.  The "Registry" obviously will not deal with
the public directly (a question Chuck has ignored in the past, and now we see
why).  Their interpretation is that Internic.net has always been the registrar,
and we challenge that interpretation, and we are writing our respective
Congressmen and women and Senators urging them to review this situation and its
implications, and to apply the appropriate pressure on DOC/NTIA to take
immediate and swift action.

I am beginning to think the introduction of new gTLDs is an URGENT neccesity to
provide an alternative to a registry operated by a company that acts in such a
fashion.  Only with competing registries will we be able to really have impact
on NSI.  The bad part about them being a sole source registry is that no matter
what we do, they DO get our business.

If IO Design had .web as a operational registry, we could encourage/cajole our
customers and users into selecting a different registry, and to really let NSI
know our dissatisfaction by voting with our dollars.  Let that hit their
bottom line.
