[IFWP] EU (& European Union threats?)

This EU boost to commerce touches off a spark of recognition (perhaps
coincidental) for me, because I have just finished researching EU behavior
on another issue, database protection
(http://www.oreilly.com/~andyo/professional/collection_law.html). The EU was
criticized by outsiders for trying to gain competitive advantage. With the
.EU domain, again, the modus operandi seems to be, "Don't create a level
ground for everybody to benefit--grab the advantage for our own members."
