I've just noticed something very strange. We manage the earth-net.net
domain on behalf of the estate of John Hunt. We recently paid NSI the
regular yearly fee and check the whois database on a regular bases for the
various domain under our administration.

if you enter the following string

whois -h rs.internic.net earth-net.net

you get the following valid reply:

   Domain Name: EARTH-NET.NET
   Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, INC.
   Whois Server: whois.networksolutions.com
   Referral URL: www.networksolutions.com
   Name Server: NS3.VRX.NET
   Name Server: NS1.VRX.NET
   Updated Date: 24-apr-2000

However if you add a period at the end of earth-net.net and issue the
following whois request

whois -h rs.internic.net earth-net.net.

you get the following invalid reply:

   Domain Name: EARTH-NET.NET
   Registrar: NETWORK SOLUTIONS, INC.
   Whois Server: whois.networksolutions.com
   Referral URL: www.networksolutions.com
   Name Server: NS2.CHANNELSPACE.COM
   Name Server: NS1.VRX.NET
   Updated Date: 24-apr-2000

ns2.channelspace.com has nothing to do with earth-net.net - so does anyone
know what's up in this case?

Regards
Joe Baptista
