+ Bar Association Demands Global Internet Laws

US legal organization the American bar association (ABA) has
called for a global internet commission to build a solid legal
structure for businesses and customers processing e-commerce
transactions. The main difficulties in creating those standards
are non-compatible national laws, the ABA said.

A 100-member committee of the ABA has reviewed online
jurisdictional cases for the last two years, and has issued a
report that demands a global online standard commission aimed
at establishing a legal e-commerce framework and overseeing
internet-related disputes across national borders. The ABA said
the most important concerns are online privacy, consumer
protection, intellectual property rights, as well as banking,
securities and taxes.

The US Federal Trade Commission said last week however that it
will not rush into e-commerce regulation, after it held a
workshop to discuss rules for North American B2B online
marketplaces. The FTC will "wait and watch" before introducing
new policies.
