Is this any help?

The unit that's described is managed via a web interface - meaning, that
like a lot of network-attached devices these days, it has a builtin
webserver (I've got a webcam whose server is the size of a matchbox).

Webapps, of course, are so intuitively obvious that even an idiot can
use them (snarf), so things like sample screens and tutorials are sadly
missing from this document.

They're calling this a "SAN", but by my terminology, it's actually NAS
(Netword Attached Storage). Which I define as raw storage without
filesystem support. Not as raw as simply presenting the physical disks,
but about 1 level up: you can carve up the managed physical disks and
present them as virtual disks or LUNs. You'd typically attach a SAN
head(s) to some or all of these disks and LUNs in order to present a
traditional fileserver (Windows CIFS, NFS, or both). Which is what the
Win2K machine has apparently been doing up to now.

Some DBMS's support a more bare-metal approach, however, and would
access the virtual storage directly.

The 2 primary means of connection to the device are via Fibre Channel
and iSCSI, and there are manuals covering both on the website where the
software overview manual resides. There is support in Red Hat Enterprise
4 and 5, but I'm not sure if the drivers are stock or have to come from
EMC. Unfortunately, their PDF's do really rude things to my Adobe Reader
app, and I'm getting tired of having to kill and restart the web browser
to keep reading.
