I wasn't sure how applicable this was to the list, but every now and then you come across something so wonderful you want to share the good news with others.
When I am making purchases for hardware in a PC, few things could be seen as a good investment. Hard drives get much larger in capacity and cheaper, processors get faster and run more efficiently, motherboards get more features and newer ram and cpu socket types making them all become outdated fairly quickly. Of the things which are good investments in your PC, I feel all of them are unrelated to your operating system. For instance, I believe a good case, mouse & keyboard, and monitor are all "good investments". Also, water cooling is another good investment because little has to be done to get it working on a newer system (usually just get a new waterblock). I recently purchased a Lian-Li case, based on all of the wonderful things I heard about them long ago. I was always skeptical of the importance of a good case, as it really doesn't impact the performance of your PC unless something is horribly wrong like improper grounding or something strange. I also have purchased another in a past time (wasn't for me), but I'll be focusing on my new purchase. Both cases were every bit as awesome as they were raved to be. Before I continue, did want to advise this isn't some sort of advertisement for the company and honestly I have no ties to them, just sharing a good experience with friends. The difference in a good case is much more valuable than I realized. It's much easier to work on, it's much more quiet and cool than my prior case, and works very well. I can't really testify that all Lian-Li products are this great with only a sample of 2 cases, but I must say they are in a completely different league than the others I've used. I've used some pretty big names and expensive cases too, such as antec, coolermaster, thermaltake, etc. Price wise, these cases have been very comparable to the others I've used as well, my most recent one being $90 shipped and the one prior being $120 shipped. What really triggered me to write this was I had my audio header on my motherboard installed improperly due to me being dumb (had it in ac97 rather than hd audio) and while most cases I would have really dreaded opening the case for any reason, with this guy I gladly opened it up and quickly fixed the problem while the pc was running without compromising my cable management or anything. This is impressive to me, as I didn't think I'd ever say "opening the case" and "gladly" in the same sentence, ever. Anyone have any similar experiences? Are there other wonderful case makers out there that are a cut above the rest? As it stands right now, I couldn't imagine myself getting a lesser case again unless it was very well justified (very cheap, needed it urgently and only one available at a B&M store, etc) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Archive http://marc.info/?l=jaxlug-list&r=1&w=2 RSS Feed http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/maillist.xml Unsubscribe [email protected]
