Assume you have $1.5K. You want to build a single-proc, multicore system, heavy on RAM that will allow you to run a handful of virtual machines, both Windows and Linux in a technology-heavy startup (1-5 people).

What would you use, both hardware specs and software stack wise?

Thanks.

PS: I already have an old box for this, a four-core system with 12GB over Fedora/KVM as host, but I am looking to upgrade. I've lost track of entry-level mainboards, chipsets and other hardware choices that maximize my low amount of dollars for this.

Prefer Python, Bash and Perl knowledge, but I came in with only PHP/Bash and
learned the rest. If you're good at scripting you'll learn. The pay is good
and the company isn't going anywhere any time soon.
