Thanks for the Cliff's Notes Tom.  That is funny about his need to define "persistant objects".  He kind of has a pet peeve about people calling things like session/application/server scoped objects "persistant".

And thanks for asking... both baby (Cassidy) and mom are doing great!

Dave,

First, congrats on your third child!  I trust she and Mom are healthy and all is going well?

Sean discussed DAO and Gateways and four frameworks for handling the database parts of your application.  The four frameworks discussed were:

  • ARF!
  • Object Breeze
  • Transfer
  • Reactor

He gave code examples of each one in action and discussed the merits of each.  Sean appeared to feel Reactor was the most mature of the four.

Early in the presentation Sean also discussed why the frameworks are useful and can speed application development.  He also indicated they are easiest to use with simple CRUD applications but are still useful (especially Reactor) in more complex applications.

Also defined a persistent object as one that maintains its state after a server has been shut down and restarted.

Hope you find this useful,

Tom

I am bummed I had to miss this, but I see that the same preso is on the session list for CFUnited in June.  :)  I had been saying for three months or so how I would be there if it didn't fall right on the delivery of our third baby.  Of course she was born at 5:19pm on Monday because I mentioned it too much!

So, what were some of the talk highlights?  I know Sean is kind of high on Reactor right now.  I am sure that was covered to some extent.  Anyone care to give a short run-down?

Matt,

Thanks for arranging for Sean to present yesterday!

Sean gave me several new approaches for projects I am currently working
on and I found the talks very informative.  I appreciate your talent for
getting high quality speakers :)
