Our new guy (3 days into CF) has that working and is eploring and playing with my CFC's as we speak (beginner's luck?); I've never had any luck getting it set up correctly.

I don't believe the CFC explorer works without using RDS, as I think it uses the CFC explorer through the CF administrator to gather the interface specs and docs..

Are you using RDS?

1.  Everything is greyed out on my applications panel.
2.  Currently, I'm running it locally..  I guess DW keeps a working copy somewhere under myDocuments.. then upon saving.. pushes to my d:\cf\wwwroot folder (on the same box)..

* I'm just trying to get use to the way DW works with the files.  I am so use to the old CFStudio way of doing the FTP to the dev server.. (I understand that DW can be configured to do that as well)

Thanks for your effort in trying to help with this..  I've looked at serveral books and online documentation.. but nothing seems to be right..

Hi Derek,

Ok – I will pull out the CF and DW books and see where I am missing something – been a while since I first got that working.  A couple of quick things in the mean time.

  1. The cfc's only show up for me in the applications panel when a .cfm file is open in DW
  2. The CFC's must be on the server – I am running CF locally so I can test without a lot of posting files up to the server.  Do you have CF running locally or are you just coding and pushing to the server?

Hi Tim,

Sorry for my late response.  I've tried your suggestion to no avail.  It still just can't seem to connect to the CFC's.  It's the same error too.

If you know of a step by step example to get ANY (even if it's not mine) cfc configuration working, I think I could work with that..  I just haven't seen any of the CFC integration stuff work with DW.  None of the other DW users that I know of use this feature.

Hi Derek,

Try setting up the _components folder as its own site in DW.  Then in DW make sure that you have "Show All" cfcs selected (the globe in the middle of the tool bar on the components tab.  That way DW looks across all your sites for cfcs and should see those set up in the _components site.

Hope that helps.

Thanks,
Tim

Subject: [DFW CFUG] Using CFC's with DW8

Hey guys,

I've been out of the CFUG for several years.. but decided get back into it.  I'm glad to see everything still going strong!

Anyway..I have a question that I can't seem to find a straight answer..
I've poked around on the web.. the CFUG archives..etc.. can't get it..

I've recently, like last week, switched from CFStudio 5.5+ to DW8.0.. Yes..I know it's a long time overdue.. but .. I loved Studio dispite it's quirky '.' bugs..
One of the features that I am very interested in is the CFC 'inspector' / 'intellisense' or whatever.. I have a lot of CFC's that I'd like DW8 to pick up on.

My setup is CFMX 7.1 Developer edition running on localhost (Built in WebServer) with RDS.

I've added the site as rds://local and can access all of the files correctly.

My directory structure looks like this.

D:\CFusionMX7\wwwroot
D:\CFusionMX7\wwwroot\_components
D:\CFusionMX7\wwwroot\mySite.com
D:\CFusionMX7\wwwroot\myOtherSite.com

My components are in the _components folder above the actual website folders (ie.. mysite.com), so that they can be reused by several sites.

So the question now is.. How do I get the components to show up in DW?

Thanks for any help you guys/girls can offer!!

Derek
