Make sure your virus software on your machine does not have a setting that automatically prevents sending mail on port 25. I had the same problem you're describing and simply flipped a flag in McAfee to allow "mass mailing worms from sending mail" and everything was OK. I'm less protected, but I can use CFMail, and I figure the setting is really for protecting others anyway :)
