High-level description of Central (which was ill-fated for whatever
reason) and Apollo is that it's a desktop application (or "player" if
you want to think of it that way) into which you can deploy your Flex
(and probably Flash) applications. This gives you more desktop-like
functionality from your web apps by giving you access to the local
filesystem, online/offline functionality, etc.

It's actually very similar to a technology IBM had several years back
called "Sash" that was pretty promising at the time. There isn't much
information about Apollo out yet but it's supposed to be talked about
quite a bit at MAX this year. There is a bit of info here:

Oh my gosh, you're kidding me! I've been looking for quite some time for a
way to make what I call "Connect/Disconnect" aware applications. Of course,
I didn't know about this group back then or I would have asked the question.
I'd given up. Can someone give a quick blurb on what "Apollo" and "Central"
are, and perhaps provide a link or two so we can read more about it?

Yep, Central could handle this with Flex 1.5, and this is one of the
main things Apollo will make possible. Even with Flex 1.5 and Central
the occasionally connected client stuff was pretty slick.

That is the prime Apollo use case.

Not available yet, but definitely on its way as far as Adobe has been
hinting...Someone else probably knows much more about this.

 Later,
