In general the cf admin is only on the server that is hosting the CF
webservice. The server that has the asp.net app that is consuming the
webservice doesn't need any CF software.

I am not clear what you mean about the input being a query. Are you
saying that the asp.net app is calling the webservice with a query as an
argument? What are you defining as a query in asp.net If it is a
dataset you will have issues as CF doesn't understand how to deal with
those.

The input would be query or structure the output would more than likely
be string.

#1 Question is "does it require the CF admin to work?"

Yes... and it IS tricky, depending on the returned data type. I can't go
into the specifics, but Ben Forta's Advanced Macromedia CFMX Application
Development book has full details. I'm sure you can find them elsewhere
on the net as well. In short, there is no problem if the data is a
simple string, but queries require particular care.
