Time to start discussion about meeting topics for the October meeting, which is Tuesday October 10.. At the last meeting, we had some discussions about the following topics.
- What people would like to see in the upcoming months?
- What is going on with the future of the DFWCFUG website?
- Why do we often see the same faces at every CFUG meeting while many members don't make it?
As for upcoming item of meeting topics, the subject ended up converging with the second bullet point. It was decided among the group that it might be an interesting direction to use our meeting time to walk through building a Mach-II application from the ground up over the course of several meetings. What better app to build up as a group than our very own www.dfwcfug.org site? The tentative plan is to begin this month with a very high level view of Mach-II applications and put together a series of "view" pages, without getting buried with the "complexities" of what to do with action requests, and to give a very soft introduction to wire framing your application.
To this end, Andrew Leaf has volunteered to create and walk through the first bit of code. Since we will be building this as we go, this would be a good meeting to bring a laptop to in case you want to follow along and create the application for yourself as well. One plan is to set up a wireless network and use one of our machines as a server for the code, so hopefully we can keep everyone from have a complete application environment on their own machines.
Future meeting volunteers include Adrian Moreno, and Aaron Lynch as we walk through this process. If you have any thoughts or suggestions, please speak up. This is your user group!
As I mentioned in the last bullet point, we also spoke at length about what we can do to engage more of the local ColdFusion community. In the meeting, I mentioned that I would like to put a poll together to get a semi-quantified response from people to see what they like, don't like, why they come or why they don't come to meetings. This month has been terribly hectic and I have not gotten that together yet, but will do so asap. We want you all at the meetings, so please look for that and take a couple of minutes to respond.
Thanks and feel free to email me directly or reply to the list if you have any thoughts/questions/concerns.
