I could probably use those... my SQL is abysmal. ;o)

There are SQL challenges posted to the list periodically. Does
that count? :)

I was just reading on CF-Talk where someone was looking for a
function that would turn a number (i.e. 125) into its equivalent
text (i.e. one hundred and twenty five). Then some other guy
responded with a solution, and mentioned that he wrote it as
part of a code challenge for his local CFUG. Which got me to
wondering if our CFUG has ever had some sort of official coding
challenge. I remember a while back on the list when someone
(can't remember who) posed a problem and the rest of us tried to
come up with the most "elegant" solution. That was fun, as I
recall.
So, would there be any interest in having some sort of monthly
code challenge? Perhaps it would be announced at the meeting and
then folks would be able to show their working code at the next
meeting. That might be an incentive to come to the meetings. Or
it could be done via the list. However, I think announcing it at
the meeting and then seeing solutions at the next meeting is
nice because it would give entrants into the contest a whole
month to think on the challenge. Thus the challenges could be
something more difficult or at least something that would take
more time.
Or what if the challenge was announced at the meeting (or on the
list, but still on the day of the meeting), and then valid or
winning (not sure how to define 'winning') solutions would be
shown on a special page on the DFWCFUG website.
Any thoughts?
Cheers,
Chris
