First of all, Mike, great presentation on Tuesday night! I'm all excited
about playing with flex again! I'm sorry for anybody who missed it.
Which kinda brings me to my point.
I talked to my boss about the meeting yesterday, and told him all about
the presentation. I've been telling the folks in my company (all nine of
them, lol!) about flex for a while, and trying to convince them that
this is something we should invest time and money in learning. My boss
is a Visual FoxPro programmer and has been since it's early inception.
He believes (and I think I do too), that if you're designing something
with a GUI, the layout ought to be done visually (that is
point-and-click it into existance), just like he's so used to doing in
FoxPro.
I know that I spend a *bunch* of my time on the UI when I'm coding using
DHTML, and Ajax techniques. It might be fair to say I spend 70-75
percent of my time doing such. Making sure that certain elements get
highlighted when you run your mouse over them, and that certain tooltips
are applied, and when you click on the element, it stays 'selected' or
that some other chain of events takes place. What a pain!
So, anyway, I'm telling him about all this again, and he's really
interested in seeing it. We missed the seminar in Dallas on 01/31 (we
all just plain forgot! *sigh*), and he didn't make the meeting on
Tuesday -- though, I'm stoked that my co-worker Steven made it so I'm
not the *only* one in my company whose seen flex in action (finally!) So
my boss, Paul, asked me, "Well, when are they going to do another
presentation on this Flex stuff?" Obviously, I couldn't tell him.
I guess what I'm getting at is can we do another Flex presentation
sometime so that I can drag my boss to the meeting. If he could see what
Steven and I saw last night, I think he'd get very excited about Flex,
and then he might actually spend some money on getting us up and running
with it.
So... any thoughts on when we might have another flex presentation?
Honestly, I could have sat there all night and talked about it, picking
Mikes brain about it, getting more and more excited about the possibilities.
Any thoughts?
Chris
