Shannan,

I haven't used an Access database with CF for a number of years, but when I
did, Access allowed a memory leak to occur. It was almost by design so that
when the hits came too often, lots of memory was tied up and not useable.
Access then would stop working. The solution was to reboot the server to
recover the lost memory. We setup a daily automatic server reboot. As my
Access site became more and more used, we had to work up to rebooting the
server 4 times a day. This could be causing the problem on your dedicated
server.

I don't have answers for your other questions, but this may answer one.

Subject: [DFW CFUG] access database corruption?

Hello all,

I am a silent member - haven't made it to a meeting yet. Hope that doesn't
count me out for asking a question or two.

I have a Access 2000 database on a dedicated server running Cold Fusion.
The site was recently moved to the dedicated server from a shared server
because the shared server kept going down (Cold Fusion pages only). Now on
the dedicated server, the cfm pages that connect to the database are timing
out and those pages won't open. Every couple of days, they fix something,
it works again and then goes down again. Perhaps they just can't find the
problem, but the hosting company (hostway) now tells me that they think that
either my database is suddenly corrupted or my code is bad. What nerve,
right? lol This same code has been working fine for the last couple years
although I am sure it needs updating. The database is updated daily via an
online interface. Has anyone ever heard of an Access database becoming
corrupted and if so, did you have to reenter all content one item at a time
in a new DB (since doing a "save as" will just keep the corrupted parts)?
This site has grown quite a lot over the last 2 years to the point where I
know we probably need to move to a SQL database now. Does anyone have any
thoughts or suggestions on this issue?

Is anyone available to contract to switch this data to a SQL / MySQL
database and update the code to work with it?

My other question is: This site will be redesigned within the year and most
likely all in Flash. Will the SQL database be portable and accessible to
Flash?

Thank you to all of you for your time. I am a CFM kindergartner compared to
most of you. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
