DNS server.
Proxy server.
Reverse-proxy server (aka HTTP Accelerator).

(...when not using the firewall features, that is.  These are all normal 
add-ons to a firewall.)

You can also use pfSense for FreeSWITCH, RADIUS, mail gateway, BGP route 
reflector, TFTP server, Netflow agent... but these are less common, AFAIK.

The main argument for using pfSense in any of these roles is ease of 
administration for someone who doesn't want to manage Yet Another UNIX 
Host from the command-line: it's a fairly sturdy underlying system to use 
as an appliance.
