I'm not sure 'fibre speed' really exists (apart from light itself, of course). Ultimately it's going to depend on the transceivers you have at each end of the link. There are plenty of cases where you might only want to use 100Mbps or 1Gbps tranceivers on a given fibre connection - if, for example, your needs are distance related rather than speed related.
Likewise, if you're taking a fibre connection from a third party (e.g. to a transit provider), then the speed you can run that fibre at will be determined by the transceivers at their end - and your contract with them :-)
Out of curiosity, is anyone on the list performing encryption on higher bandwidth (i.e. gigabit) links using pfSense, and if so, mind sharing what hardware you're using to do so?
