Hi all,

I have a pfSense 2.0 box connected to an ASDL modem running as a MPoA
bridge. Basically the ADSM modem does some unspecified manipulation and
presents the public IP to the LAN connection via DHCP along with gateway
etc. information allowing the pfSense box to get out onto the internet.

When this works fine it's great but unfortunately I've been getting quite
a few disconnections and I'd like to be able to access the modem's
web-interface so I can check on line conditions, sync speed etc.

What I need to do is add a second IP address to the WAN interface and then
allow routing to that interface something like the instructions listed
here
http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Accessing_modem_from_inside_firewall.
However as the ADSL service is NOT using PPPoE pfSense sees the internet
connection as a simple LAN connection, meaning the section for pfSense
version 2.0 isn't applicable and the version 1.x isn't going to work due
to the NAT changes between versions.

Adding the 2nd IP address is simple - I can use the shell and ifconfig or
change the alias address in the WAN interface configuration and add in the
correct network subnet. I can prove this works by pinging the modem from
the pfSense box - what I can't figure out is how to make that alias
network accessible from the LAN.

In short I'm trying to assign an network alias of 172.16.255.0/24 to the
WAN interface and route traffic from the LAN to it:

pfSense ADSL Modem
Internet via DHCP --------- ADSL network
Alias of 172.16.255.200 Web interface on 172.16.255.201

Just in case it makes any difference my internal networks are all
172.16.0.0/24 networks as well.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Philip Sharpe
