The Via Rhine interfaces do support hw vlan tagging:
options=8280b<RXCSUM,TXCSUM,VLAN_MTU,WOL_UCAST,WOL_MAGIC,LINKSTATE>
While the Intel card has:
options=209b<RXCSUM,TXCSUM,VLAN_MTU,VLAN_HWTAGGING,VLAN_HWCSUM,WOL_MAGIC>
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
It's also stated on the VLAN configuration page:
"Not all drivers/NICs support 802.1Q VLAN tagging properly. On cards
that do not explicitly support it, VLAN tagging will still work, but the
reduced MTU may cause problems. See the pfSense handbook for information
on supported cards."
That's why I wanted to use an interface with proper VLAN support.
As mentioned, I don't have any issues with built-in Via Rhine
interfaces. My problem is, that the Intel card on the PCI slot does not
work.
