If you built a pkg from ports or take it from FreeBSD you'll have to take care to not break dependencies of other packages. - That's where I see the point of using PBI's with 2.1 onwards. For the init script just be aware that you can't just add id to rc.conf but will want to make a little script like it is done for other packages.
