Hi Folks,

I've sent the occasional post on this topic over the years before but it never really goes anywhere - I will try one more time.

I seem to be able to reliably crash pfSense anytime I use a schedule (every version from 2.0 to 2.1.5). The schedule can be on a rule or a limiter and it will result in repeated crashes throughout the day. The rule being triggered allows select source IPs on the LAN to access the public internet - they are blocked by the next rule if not permitted by the scheduled pass rule.

I have spent hours paring down the pfSense config to its bare essential, trying to find out if there is interdependence on some other feature but I haven't found anything to date. I have tried another alix2d13 board that I own, I've put a Core2Duo desktop in place of the alix2d13. I've tried embedded and full installs on alix2d13 (CF vs 2.5" IDE HD). I've tried 32bit vs 64bit on a Core2Duo desktop. It always ends with the same result, if the scheduled rule is active it will crash (usually within hours).

I've been told schedules work. I believe you. I have an install elsewhere where a limiter is scheduled for a few hours on Sundays, but something on my home pfSense config breaks pfSense every time.

If there is a dev out there whose interest is piqued by this bug, I would love to work with you to root cause it. Plenty of crash dumps have been uploaded if you would like to look at them.

If after reading this you can suggest another avenue that I should take for bug reports, please reply off list. I have filed https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/3848 2 months ago but it remains in new state.

best regards,
Ernst
